Pambiche Cuban Restaurant, Portland, OR

For over a decade, Pambiche has been nourishing Portland with traditional Cuban dishes that have been in the Maribona Family for generations. We serve Cuban comfort food straight out of grandma’s kitchen with an emphasis on fresh, natural and healthy meals, just as she intended for us.

Located in the Apambichao Building, a funky turn of the century Victorian landmark on Portland’s East 28th Avenue, our scene is straight up Old Havana and our hospitality is genuinely Cuban!

About Our Cuban Creole Cuisine

People ask all the time “What is Cuban cuisine?” “Do you have chips and salsa?” “Is it spicy?” Although Cuba and Mexico share many historical ties, Spanish heritage, similar colonial experiences, common language and so on, the foods of the two countries are poles apart. The indigenous cultures, climate and geography, the impact of African culture, the colonial economies, etcetera, all of these characteristics and more helped shape each nation and set them on very different roads to what they would become.  Where Mexico and Guatemala share many similarities,  Cuba with her culture and cuisine are much more aligned to those of Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and even New Orleans. These are Creole cultures sprouted from the colonization of the Americas. So what is Cuban cuisine? The shorter answer: exotic Spanish cuisine. A marriage of Spanish staples reborn in the Caribbean with tropical root vegetables, plantains, roasted meats, hearty stews, deep fried delicacies, rum, rice and beans. It’s 500 years of fusion culminating in a delicious mixture of Spanish, African and Caribbean foods to make one dynamic cuisine.
